 Useful only as a stand, not a hubAug 16, 2010
Received this item and immediately noticed that the power button does nothing. The fans are always running as long as it's plugged in, whether the switch is on or off. Kinda weird. Additionally, five of the six USB ports just don't work. Maybe mine is a rare dud, I don't know. I basically received an aluminum stand with a USB-switched fan, which is ok considering I only wanted a stand anyway.
It's a little flimsy as well, and the feet are clear plastic which takes away from what could've been a better-looking product (albeit much more expensive). I use it with a 15" Macbook Pro (Core i7) though and it does lift it off the table enough to make a difference in temp. While using XBMC as a test, the temp usually hovers around 170-175. Lifted with the stand it goes down to about 167, and with the fans turned on (which by the way are nearly completely silent, you have to cock your head to make sure they're on), the temp goes down into the high 140s, low 150s. Not bad. I really only use the fan occasionally, for cpu-intense applications that can overpower the MBP's built-in 5K rpm fans.
All in all, it's a bit of a lemon, but if you just want an aluminum stand for about $30 (what I paid, will probably go down though), this is it. The fan is more of a bonus than a feature.

Perfect in every way. Not powered, but gets its power from either the laptop or powered hub. Really satisfied with quality and features, and price!

It's nicely made and does its job, but I was expecting something a lot quieter. I don't know why since the MacBook Pro fans are so loud when on, but this really isn't that much quieter. It also uses 2 USB ports -- I know why and it's not a big deal, but thought I'd point that out.
Ultimately I returned mine because I prefer a quieter environment (I had bought it mostly for the passive cooling and USB ports).

By far the best laptop cooler I have usedOct 15, 2009
I recently burned out the motherboard in my laptop and so I wanted a cooler. I also have an extended life battery on my computer. Because of this it was difficult to find a cooler that the laptop did not slide off from. This one does the trick. Not only does the laptop fit on nicely, it does not slide around. The fans are almost silent and the extra usb outlets are wonderful. Overall, this is a spectacular product that I would recommend to anyone!
